Mars Materials Announces Exclusive License and Technology Partnership with NREL
Mars Materials announced a technology partnership with NREL for an exclusive license to use NREL’s renewable acrylonitrile (ACN) technology in producing carbon-negative polyacrylamide flocculants for commercial use. Flocculants are used in public water systems to remove sediments from drinking water and have been mostly petroleum-based until now.
In addition to benefiting the environment through the use of renewable feedstocks, the renewable nitrilation process also delivers higher yields and is safer and more energy efficient than methods used to produce petrochemical-based acrylamide.
