Homeostasis
Homeostasis is developing an innovative molten salt electrolysis technology that leverages recent advances in electrochemical CO2 reduction while introducing key innovations in reactor design and process control to enable scaleup and competitive pricing. Unlike conventional graphite production methods that require either mining of natural graphite or energy-intensive conversion of petroleum coke at temperatures upwards of 3000°C, Homeostasis’s molten carbonate electrolysis uses CO2 waste as feedstock and operates at lower temperatures (650-800°C). Homeostasis’s technoeconomic models, based on experimental data and industry-standard cost factors, show a clear path to delivering advanced graphite at $5/kg, compared to current North American market prices of $8-$10/kg. This competitive advantage stems from their process innovations that minimize energy consumption, utilize waste CO2 as feedstock, and employ a simplified production chain.
