“The Element of Change is in the Air” — Twelve, Formerly Opus 12, Raises $57 Million in Series A Funding
In the beginning of July, Opus 12 unveiled its new name and brand, Twelve. Co-founders, Dr. Kendra Kuhl, Dr. Etosha Cave, and Nicholas Flanders, laid out their plans centered on carbon transformation to build a fossil-free future.
“Carbon transformation reduces emissions from supply chains, closes the carbon loop, and provides a viable pathway to a fossil-free future. Using CO₂ in place of fossil fuels in Twelve’s target applications could address nearly 10 percent of global carbon emissions.” Read the full letter and check out their new video here.
In addition to the new look, Twelve locked in $57M in new Series A funding. Lead investors were from the Capricorn Technology Impact Fund and Carbon Direct Capital Management, as well as DCVC, Munich Re Ventures, Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, Breakout Ventures, and Evok Innovations. Alchemr Receives $1.15M In Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Part II Award and Secures Paid Pilot Demonstration with Repso
Alchemr, makers of low-cost responsive water electrolyzers, was awarded $1,150,000 for its work green hydrogen production.
The project, AEM Water Electrolyzer for Hydrogen Production from Offshore Wind, is aimed at developing a seawater-fed water electrolyzer, coupled with offshore wind turbines, for green hydrogen production. The Venture For ClimateTech Cohort 1 member’s goals are to decarbonize many sectors with green hydrogen, increase national energy security, and provide flexibility to the power grid. Key to this realization is lowering the cost of green hydrogen production.
In addition, Alchemr has secured its first paid pilot demonstration with Repsol, the largest hydrogen producer in Spain and pioneer in low- to zero-emission fuels! Alchemr will demonstrate its anion exchange water electrolyzer stack at Repsol’s facilities late next year, bringing Alchemr a big step closer to producing green hydrogen at less than $1.50/kg before 2025.

Meet Our Summer Interns
Program Intern | Scale For ClimateTech
“I am a 5th year Industrial & Systems Engineering student at RIT. I would like to one day work in an operations or a project management role. I am excited to learn more about the CleanTech industry and how I can support it in the future as an engineer. The entrepreneurial / start-up culture is new to me and I find that I learn something new everyday from the S4C team and NextCorps.”
Operations Intern | Venture For ClimateTech
“I’m from New York City and currently a prospective graduate student for a degree in Environmental Engineering at Princeton University. I’m a former ClimateTech founder myself, having combined my passions for the environment and entrepreneurship to create a renewable energy startup called Reclaim Energies. As an Operations intern for V4C, I’ll have the opportunity to help deliver curriculum to the inaugural cohort as well as aid in the outreach process for all the summer programming. I’m super excited to have the opportunity to interface with founders who are tackling some of the most pressing issues pertaining to climate change. Through this internship, I have the opportunity to learn core lessons and make connections that I’m sure will prove to be critical in the success of my next venture.”
Multi-Media Intern | Scale For ClimateTech
“I am an MFA Student at RIT working in film and video with emphasis in documentary production. My background is in fine art, with a BA from the University of Colorado, where I was born. I am excited to work with and interview professionals in the field, and get a deeper understanding of the state of the technology and the people here.”
