Opus 12’s device converts CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels that are cost-competitive with conventional products. It bolts onto any source of CO2, and uses only water and electricity as inputs. Their core technology is the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), a drop-in component to a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) reactor. To produce the full CO2 electrolyzer system, the novel MEA is integrated into existing reactor designs of their manufacturing partner, a US-based world leader in PEM electrolysis. Scale-up of the Opus 12 product line has begun with a dishwasher-size commercial unit and they are scaling to industrial modules (tons/day/unit CO2 consumption) in 2022.
